Narrative:
Accomplished periodic servicing job card on an md-80 aircraft after downloading data on remote data station (rds). I placed data card in my uniform pocket. Prior to returning to aircraft I signed for the accomplishment of reinstalling card into digital flight data acquisition unit (dfdau). However; I was delayed in returning to the md-80 and forgot to reinstall data card. After the md-80 had departed my station; I noticed that the data card was still in my pocket. I immediately contacted maintenance control to have a new data card installed. I should do my usual procedure of accomplishing work before signing off. I neglected to return data card to dfdau after download.
