Narrative:
After rotation; I noticed smoke in the cockpit. I then turned downwind and declared an emergency. On downwind the engine cowl departed the aircraft. During preflight the cowl and whole aircraft were normal.

Title: A T28 had smoke in the cockpit after rotation. On downwind ;when returning to land; the engine cowl departs the aircraft.
