Narrative:
While at 6000 ft on arrival; our flight experienced a climbing RA due to a VFR traffic conflict. We reacted by climbing 700 ft above our assigned altitude; until we were clear of conflict. Once clear we descended back to 6000 ft and continued with the approach vectors. The captain immediately informed ATC of our issue; and no other action was necessary. To prevent occurrences such as this one perhaps some changes to high traffic airspace in the northeastern us would be effective.
