Narrative:
Airport maintenance workers and vehicles were positioned near the departure end of runway 27L (5276' length) at fll. During take-off; nearing departure end of runway 27L climbing through approximately fifty feet AGL; a rocket shot up in front of right wing and exploded twenty feet from aircraft. I notified tower. Later investigation revealed that rocket was of the type used to scare birds away from airport property. Maintenance personnel apologized for lapse of good judgment.

Title: An Air Taxi Pilot reported that FLL airport workers fired a bird diversion rocket that narrowly missed his aircraft as he took off.
Narrative: Airport Maintenance workers and vehicles were positioned near the departure end of runway 27L (5276' length) at FLL.
