Narrative:

Approaching enroute thunderstorms we requested a climb to FL350 and a deviation left 30 NM from ATC; via cpdlc. We requested the deviation twice with no response; so we declared an emergency via cpdlc and began the deviation. Shortly thereafter; ATC granted the climb and then the deviation. We canceled the emergency and continued with no incident. We notified dispatch of the declaration and canceling of the emergency and the deviation.
