Narrative:
Twice today the raas system began announcing our location and covered tower's transmission to us. During this critical phase of operations we were forced to ask tower to repeat instructions that would have been heard if the raas system had not gone off. The system is a distraction during a critical phase.

Title: An air carrier pilot reported that the RAAS on his aircraft twice interrupted clearances from the Tower necessitating the transmissions be repeated.
Narrative: Twice today the RAAS system began announcing our location and covered Tower's transmission to us. During this critical phase of operations we were forced to ask tower to repeat instructions that would have been heard if the RAAS system had not gone off. The system is a distraction during a critical phase.
