Narrative:
We were issued a go-around by the mci tower in close to the runway; after being cleared for landing on 1R. There had been heavy rain at the airport; there were two aircraft in the hold short area awaiting takeoff. Despite encountering IMC on the approach; we had the landing runway in sight well above 1000 feet above tdze. The tower told us during the go-around that there was an issue with their asde; so they issued the go-around.
