Narrative:

While making a localizer back course approach to runway 17; I forgot to extend the gear and experienced a prop strike. I was warned by the tower and made a go-around attempt but the prop strike occurred. More attention or repeated use of the checklist could have helped us prevent this incident. Two days later while completing an accident report for the insurance company; I realized I was out of currency for instrument approaches. Keeping a separate record of approaches may have helped avoid this inadvertent error.
