A B757 captain was informed in flight that a law enforcement officer revealed his gun and badge during boarding. The captain would have removed the officer from this flight because his presence with a weapon was potentially compromised.

Narrative:
It was brought to my attention in cruise that one of the (law enforcement officer) leo's that was transported on the previous flight had exposed their badge and firearm while boarding. Even though it may have been by mistake; had I known about the incident I would have used my captain's authority to deplane that individual because the individual's undercover status has been compromised. It is my belief passengers should not know of any guns on board the aircraft. If there had been any terrorists on board they would know of at least one gun to take from this leo. Since I am a ffdo (federal flight deck officer); I feel all leo's should report to the captain or team leader as the captain (as it was before in our manual) has the final authority to transport. Since the our manual now has deleted any references to involvement by the captain; it is in my judgment an unsafe operation.
