Narrative:
I was contacted by the steward on duty that the aircraft I was flying evidently had no life preservers on board during my tour because they had been removed by maintenance. The aircraft also was under ownership change therefore could not leave the contiguous us there is no checklist that I have found on the xl that has the pilot checking the life vest. Make the life preservers a maintenance item check before the aircraft is released to line flying.
