Narrative:

Company dispatch filed the flight plan at an altitude of FL400. I accepted the clearance to FL400 and flew at that altitude. The aircraft had an open MEL with an operational limitation of flying no higher than FL350. When I accepted the aircraft I did make note of the fact there was an MEL but I failed to cross reference the operational limitation of the MEL. I feel it would be of benefit to have the computer print the operational limitations directly on the MEL form that is entered into the aircraft logbook; and also on the flight release.

Title: A corporate flight crew reported non-compliance with an altitude limiting MEL they both missed in preflight. Dispatcher apparently also missed the restriction.
