Narrative:
I had slowed a mzv track flight to 250 kts to get in trail spacing on a vector of 245 and climbing to FL200. I climbed an iow track flight to fl 230 and was on a 280 heading. I thought the iow flight would go behind the mzv flight; but with the slowed speed of the mzv flight; the iow flight quickly caught up. The conflict alert; (ca); went off and both were through about the same altitude. I descended the mzv flight back down to fl 190 and expedited the iow flight to FL230. I was working on getting currency today and should have asked for a d-side.
