Narrative:

Aircraft encountered severe turbulence; resulting in an aisle cart in the aft galley to tip over and fall against the right fuselage at a 90 degree angle. Flight attendants #2 and #4 were successful in righting the fallen cart. If this cart had been found on the floor; I believe that we would not have been able to move it to an upright position. This cart was in the third position from the right side fuselage. The other two carts at the #1 and #2 position were in the aisle being used for service. Remaining carts were all secured by brakes on and safety latches latched in down positions. These safety precautions operate in a forward or aft movement; and not in a sideways operation. I feel that we really need to do something very quickly to prevent any other cart from falling in this manner.
