Narrative:
On departure climbing through FL250 generator number two faulted. Attempted reset per ECAM - no effect. Start APU and put APU generator on line. Coordinated with dispatch via ACARS on aircraft status/configuration. Approximately 120 west of [departure airport] the APU auto shut down. Set up radio patch with dispatch and maintenance. Attempted reset of generator control unit number two per maintenance and capt emergency authority - no help. Coordinated return to [departure airport]. Landed uneventfully. No traffic priority was required.

Title: An A320 flight crew reported the loss of a generator followed later by an auto shut down of the APU. After consulting with Dispatch and Maintenance; and with only one AC power source; they returned to departure airport.
