Narrative:
During initial takeoff roll just prior to the '80 KTS; thrust set' call an EICAS master caution 'gen drive' light illuminated on the forward screen and I observed a 'left gen off and a left gen drive' light illuminated on the overhead panel. I took aircraft control from the first officer and aborted the takeoff at 80 KTS. The rejected takeoff autobrakes did not come on during the abort. Returned to the gate for inspection and maintenance. Dispatch notified via ACARS and phone patch with maintenance control.
