Narrative:
On climbout lost captain pfd/nd/upper ECAM screens. Applied procedures in accordance with pilot operating handbook and operations manual using QRH; ECAM; ECAM non-normal supp. Screens returned. ECAM displayed loss of generator 1 and AC bus 1. APU generator would not connect. 1 electrical source [remaining]; returned to [departure airport]. Declared emergency; requested equipment; utilized delaying vectors to burn down fuel. Advised flight attendants to prepare cabin for normal landing. ACARS inoperable; used company radio to advise dispatch arrange tow. Landing weight approx 138;800 pounds; sink rate less [than] 300 FPM; smooth and uneventful. Cleared onto high speed; towed to gate. Aircraft would not accept ground power. Rainshowers in area; however no lightning; static discharge; or radio static noted.

Title: An A319 Captain reported on climb out losing PFD/ND/Upper ECAM; noted loss of generator number 1 and AC bus number 1; and found they were unable to connect APU to AC bus number 1. Down to one AC power source; they declared an emergency and returned to departure airport.
