Narrative:
In cruise at high power setting tried to top a thunderstorm. #3 engine compressor stalled. Captain applied maximum continuous thrust to #1 and #2 engines and began a shallow descent to maintain airspeed. Den ARTCC notified while descending through 38000' (frequency use prevented earlier notification). #3 restarted on second 'rapid relight' attempt and a climb established at 37600', climbing back to 39000'.
