Narrative:
While level at 10000', I set my altimeter to read zero on the ground (per company procedure). After this I mistakenly moved altimeter set knob on center altimeter and altitude alert went off. We never left 10000', but the indication may have been different. I immediately returned altimeter knob to previous setting.

Title: ACR MLG FLT CREW IN LEVEL FLT MOVED BAROMETER SET OF ALT ALERT REFERENCING ALTIMETER CAUSING ALT ALERT TO SOUND. FLT CREW CONCERNED MAY HAVE CAUSED DEVIATION IN MODE C ALT READOUT.
Narrative: WHILE LEVEL AT 10000', I SET MY ALTIMETER TO READ ZERO ON THE GND (PER COMPANY PROC). AFTER THIS I MISTAKENLY MOVED ALTIMETER SET KNOB ON CENTER ALTIMETER AND ALT ALERT WENT OFF. WE NEVER LEFT 10000', BUT THE INDICATION MAY HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT. I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED ALTIMETER KNOB TO PREVIOUS SETTING.
