Narrative:
We stopped perpendicular to the gate to wait for the lights to be turned on. Light came on and I began taxing to the gate. Approximately 3/4 through the turn my first officer said 'watch out'. I saw a tug with baggage cart driving right in front of me coming from the left. I stopped the aircraft abruptly. If anyone would have been standing; I believe they would have fallen. The driver showed a complete disregard for safety by not giving way and could have caused a serious incident.
