Narrative:
Captain's leg on approach; when directed by ATC to slow to 180 KTS; commanded the flaps from up to 1 degree while slowing through 225 KTS (flaps 1 placard speed is 250; company imposed 240 KTS). Flap indicator indicated slight movement of the left flap and no movement of the right flap. [We] worked QRH trailing edge flap asymmetry. All flaps up landing and emergency landing checklists to prepare for landing. [We] declared an emergency; coordinated emergency with ATC and flight attendants. Landing on the runway was uneventful. Airplane could have stopped by on an earlier taxiway but we exited at a later taxiway where the emergency vehicles were going. The fire chief determined that the brakes were not hot. Taxied to tow-in gate; uneventfully; however; was requested by maintenance not to park the parking brakes due to unusually warm brakes.
