Narrative:
Approximately 90 mi northeast of TOC inbound to atl on J48 I acknowledged a clearance to FL240. The clearance readback included the airline and flight number. Leaving FL340 atlanta center requested that we check our altitude, '1000' low and descending'. I stopped the descent and informed center that we were descending to FL240 as clrd. Center said that the clearance had been for another flight, but that there was no traffic conflict. We were air carrier a xyz the other flight was air carrier a yxz.
