Narrative:
During the passenger loading process; about 12 minutes before departure [we] had not started APU yet. Crew chief tried to get our attention by throwing guide man orange batons at the cockpit window. In all my years I have never witnessed this sort of behavior before. The prescribed method for gaining flight crew attention is to use the chime system. Throwing objects at the aircraft can easily cause damage to the aircraft. The crew chief should be reeducated not to throw things at the 75 million dollar jet.
