Narrative:

The clearance was finally given for landing and rollout was uneventful. The tower cleared us off at the high speed from runway 22L at taxiway bravo and to continue across runway 22R that had an aircraft in position on runway 22R and to contact ground on other side (off runway 22R). As we were just crossing delta taxiway we contacted ground (we had reasonable speed and noticed an medium large transport taxiing on the outer, northbound between bb and rb approximately 300' from us. It was in my judgement that we had more than reasonable and safe clearance between aircraft). Ground control requested that we give way to the medium large transport jet and continue onto the inner taxiway to the gate. Since our speed at that point would require we brake very hard and disrupt the passenger and since we were in the intersection of the outer by the time the clearance was stated I felt it safer to continue. Also I felt that tower's view of the sep as in past experience would warrant a different clearance. However, with the unprofessional comment from the medium large transport crew (something like 'that large transport just passed in front of us, violate him'). The ground controller responded by chastising us on how unsafe we were. (Note: I learned when I called the tower on the landline that air carrier had just had a string of problems which as stated by the tower supvr, I was on the end of the string.) we discussed the incident and he stated that it would go no further than him. Contributing factor was the tower to 'continue across runway 22R and contact ground on the other side' type statement with an aircraft holding in position tends to make one to be hasty in movement to help controllers. Also the close location of several crossing (D, a, B, O) txwys to the 'off point' of an active runway. Not to mention the unprofessional comments of a 'professional flight crew.'

Title: FAILED TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY AND PASS BEHIND TAXIING ACFT.

Narrative: THE CLRNC WAS FINALLY GIVEN FOR LNDG AND ROLLOUT WAS UNEVENTFUL. THE TWR CLRED US OFF AT THE HIGH SPD FROM RWY 22L AT TXWY BRAVO AND TO CONTINUE ACROSS RWY 22R THAT HAD AN ACFT IN POS ON RWY 22R AND TO CONTACT GND ON OTHER SIDE (OFF RWY 22R). AS WE WERE JUST XING DELTA TXWY WE CONTACTED GND (WE HAD REASONABLE SPD AND NOTICED AN MLG TAXIING ON THE OUTER, NBOUND BTWN BB AND RB APPROX 300' FROM US. IT WAS IN MY JUDGEMENT THAT WE HAD MORE THAN REASONABLE AND SAFE CLRNC BTWN ACFT). GND CTL REQUESTED THAT WE GIVE WAY TO THE MLG JET AND CONTINUE ONTO THE INNER TXWY TO THE GATE. SINCE OUR SPD AT THAT POINT WOULD REQUIRE WE BRAKE VERY HARD AND DISRUPT THE PAX AND SINCE WE WERE IN THE INTXN OF THE OUTER BY THE TIME THE CLRNC WAS STATED I FELT IT SAFER TO CONTINUE. ALSO I FELT THAT TWR'S VIEW OF THE SEP AS IN PAST EXPERIENCE WOULD WARRANT A DIFFERENT CLRNC. HOWEVER, WITH THE UNPROFESSIONAL COMMENT FROM THE MLG CREW (SOMETHING LIKE 'THAT LGT JUST PASSED IN FRONT OF US, VIOLATE HIM'). THE GND CTLR RESPONDED BY CHASTISING US ON HOW UNSAFE WE WERE. (NOTE: I LEARNED WHEN I CALLED THE TWR ON THE LANDLINE THAT ACR HAD JUST HAD A STRING OF PROBS WHICH AS STATED BY THE TWR supvr, I WAS ON THE END OF THE STRING.) WE DISCUSSED THE INCIDENT AND HE STATED THAT IT WOULD GO NO FURTHER THAN HIM. CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS THE TWR TO 'CONTINUE ACROSS RWY 22R AND CONTACT GND ON THE OTHER SIDE' TYPE STATEMENT WITH AN ACFT HOLDING IN POS TENDS TO MAKE ONE TO BE HASTY IN MOVEMENT TO HELP CTLRS. ALSO THE CLOSE LOCATION OF SEVERAL XING (D, A, B, O) TXWYS TO THE 'OFF POINT' OF AN ACTIVE RWY. NOT TO MENTION THE UNPROFESSIONAL COMMENTS OF A 'PROFESSIONAL FLT CREW.'
