An EMB145 APU developed an APU old leak shortly after takeoff and was MEL'ed at the next station. The aircraft had been in the hangar the previous night and had APU write ups signed off.

Narrative:
Shortly after departure [I] noted a strong burn odor and an APU egt spike. [I] placed packs on the engine and shut down the APU. Noted APU had been deferred and cleared twice previously with an ops check good sign off. [I] contacted maintenance control who initially wanted to defer the APU over the phone. Advised them that I would like maintenance to actually come to the aircraft and inspect the tail cone. Upon inspection out station maintenance stated there was a massive oil leak in the APU compartment. Maintenance then deferred the APU. Aircraft had been in the hangar over night and the APU was signed off as ops and leak check good. Maintenance either did not notice the massive leak in the APU compartment; or had cleared the deferral without actually inspecting the APU.
