Narrative:
This near midair collision event occurred while descending into nassau, bahamas, on BR55V. ZMA cleared our flight to descend from FL230 to cross prune intersection (30 DME NAS VOR) at 10000'. While passing through 12500' the first officer saw an aircraft at our 12 O'clock position, opp direction, on a direct collision course with our flight path. I was hand flying the aircraft at the time and immediately initiated a 30 degree left bank and descent to avoid a collision. The opposing aircraft passed just to our right side with 0' vertical clearance and an estimated 2000' horizontal. An immediate attempt was made to ask ZMA if they were controling the subject aircraft. After as many as 5 attempts, the ZMA controller did advised that he did indeed have the aircraft on radar, VFR at 12500' mode C. He apologized for not advising us of his position and explained that he had been working 2 frequencys and had been preoccupied with other aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 90556: they were working 2 frequencys and had become involved on the other frequency. They had been too busy to inform us of the VFR traffic.

Title: NON REPORTED TRAFFIC SIGHTED AND EVASIVE ACTION TAKEN.
Narrative: THIS NMAC EVENT OCCURRED WHILE DSNDING INTO NASSAU, BAHAMAS, ON BR55V. ZMA CLRED OUR FLT TO DSND FROM FL230 TO CROSS PRUNE INTXN (30 DME NAS VOR) AT 10000'. WHILE PASSING THROUGH 12500' THE F/O SAW AN ACFT AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS, OPP DIRECTION, ON A DIRECT COLLISION COURSE WITH OUR FLT PATH. I WAS HAND FLYING THE ACFT AT THE TIME AND IMMEDIATELY INITIATED A 30 DEG LEFT BANK AND DSCNT TO AVOID A COLLISION. THE OPPOSING ACFT PASSED JUST TO OUR RIGHT SIDE WITH 0' VERT CLRNC AND AN ESTIMATED 2000' HORIZ. AN IMMEDIATE ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO ASK ZMA IF THEY WERE CTLING THE SUBJECT ACFT. AFTER AS MANY AS 5 ATTEMPTS, THE ZMA CTLR DID ADVISED THAT HE DID INDEED HAVE THE ACFT ON RADAR, VFR AT 12500' MODE C. HE APOLOGIZED FOR NOT ADVISING US OF HIS POS AND EXPLAINED THAT HE HAD BEEN WORKING 2 FREQS AND HAD BEEN PREOCCUPIED WITH OTHER ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 90556: THEY WERE WORKING 2 FREQS AND HAD BECOME INVOLVED ON THE OTHER FREQ. THEY HAD BEEN TOO BUSY TO INFORM US OF THE VFR TFC.
