Narrative:
On taxi out via pd; cleared to taxi to runway 22L intersection west with taxi instructions B; right; hold short of J. We failed to make the transition to taxiway B and taxied straight ahead on a. As we approached intersection B I realized that we were on a not on B where we were expected. As we keyed the mike to report our transgression ground saw our error and reported the same; they didn't seem upset and sequenced me back in line at intersection K.why did this happen? Expectation bias; very confusing taxiway layout at ewr; (one taxiway has 3 different identifications); poor electronic taxi diagram what can be done to fix it? Listen even more intently; revise the taxiway layout at ewr (not likely to happen). Substantial improvement to the airport chart for ewr. Exploded view double the size of the drawing and make it two pages. Our efb charts are something that we have control over and it is time for this airport to have an upgrade to the airport page.
