Narrative:
We crossed 4L after landing and contacted ground. Our instruction was to taxi on bravo. We started to taxi north on bravo and were about to cross echo. While I was scanning to the left the first officer said; 'it doesn't look like he's going to stop.' I looked right and saw a commuter aircraft that had just cleared 4L on echo on a collision course towards us. I stopped the aircraft just short of echo and the commuter kept coming. ATC saw it then and told him to stop right there. He came to a stop just in front of us. It's very dark in that area of the airport at night and aircraft lights are about the only thing you can see. More illumination of some type would be very helpful. A big thanks to the first officer for catching this and bringing it to my attention quickly. He deserves a medal.

Title: Following an alert from the First Officer the Captain of a B737 made an emergency stop to avoid a commuter aircraft exiting the runway across his path. Night time and poor lighting contributed to the incident.
