Narrative:
During the preflight phase while checking paperwork I failed to realize that maintenance control incorrectly applied MEL 36-21-06 for the left bleed loop; rather than MEL 36-11-02 for the prsov and the associated left bleed caution message. Due to the incorrect MEL being applied; I flew 2 legs without the malfunctioning left prsov being secured closed and appropriated performance penalties applied; as required to comply with the correct MEL procedure. I was notified via email. Even though I reviewed the history in the maintenance log; I did not carefully investigate; and compare the initial write up from the mechanic can with what maintenance control had deferred. Double check and make sure the correct item is being deferred by maintenance control. Maybe by going back to the maintenance log and trying to find the initial write up about the deferred item in question; what EICAS message or previous event led to the initial write up; comparing it and checking it to see if it is the correct item instead of going directly to the MEL number from the dispatch release.
