Narrative:
The lyh ASR-9 radar system continually drops secondary (beacon) data on aircraft in the sector. When this occurs the aircraft in question no longer receive MSAW processing. If this problem occurs while aircraft are in hand off status to the lyh sector; an automated hand off is not possible and verbal coordination must be accomplished. This has been an issue for many months and has been reported to technical operations through the airport operations control center.fix the secondary radar system.
