Narrative:
At gate the caterers reported smoke and sparks from the APU exshaust. With tailwind smoke began entering the cabin through the left rear door. Crew left the plane and I observed sparks and smoke from the APU. Called fire department and shut down APU.maintenance determined exhaust lining of the APU had come apart and littered the ground with parts.

Title: Flight Crew evacuated the B737-400 at the gate when advised by caterers that the APU was emitting smoke and sparks.
Narrative: At gate the caterers reported smoke and sparks from the APU exshaust. With tailwind smoke began entering the cabin through the left rear door. Crew left the plane and I observed sparks and smoke from the APU.
