Narrative:
On approach we received a slats fail caution message. I requested we cancel the approach and we ran QRH checklist. ATC asked if we needed assistance so I requested the trucks to standby. Complied with the checklist; informed the flight attendants and landed the long runway 9. Since this is the same aircraft that was involved in a recent gear landing event and had the slats subsystem already deferred. I felt that maintenance might want to pay particular attention to the slats/flaps system. I am reporting the event to cover (protect) any issues the company might have with any decisions or procedures that occurred during the event.
