Narrative:
The tower controller cleared us for takeoff. I released the parking brake and looked outside to check that the final approach to 26L was clear. As I was pulling over the hold short line; a single-engine airplane turned final approach to 26L. I stopped the aircraft to see which runway the airplane was heading toward. As the single-engine airplane continued toward my runway; I queried the tower controller; 'is there traffic landing on 26L?' he replied 'affirmative'; and told me to 'hold short of the runway'. I replied that I was already over the hold-short line; and asked for further instructions. He then instructed the single-engine airplane to execute a go-around and turn northerly away from 26L. When that traffic had cleared the area; we were then recleared for takeoff from 26L. We departed safely; and there were no other incidents on the flight.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: After being cleared for takeoff a CRJ flight crew braked to a stop after crossing the hold short line when a small aircraft was spotted turning final to land on the same runway. The Tower directed the landing aircraft to go around and cleared the CRJ for takeoff.
