Narrative:
Approximately 30 miles prior to bkw we were issued a descent to FL330 by ZID. The captain repeated FL330 back to indy center and set the appropriate altitude in the aircraft pre-selector and called 'FL330'; I responded 'FL330'. As the descent started ATC called again and told us to amend altitude and descend to FL320. The captain repeated the clearance to descend to FL320 and set the appropriate settings in the flight guidance computer and I repeated 'FL320'. Upon transferring to the next controller prior to reaching fl 320 ATC asked what altitude we had been cleared to. The captain stated FL320. ATC then responded that it should be FL330 and requested us to return from FL325 back to FL330. We reset the altitude preselect to FL330 and climbed to FL330 per ATC request.
