Approximately 10 minutes into flight; 4 chimes were given to flight attendants from the captain indicating heat/fire/temp problems in tailcone. [Critical] info was given; flight attendants ran the checklist in order to step 6. Captain was notified cabin was ready. Flight landed; fire and rescue met flight. Plane returned to gate.

Title: A MD80 had a TAIL COMPARTMENT TEMP HI warning ten minutes after takeoff. The Captain told the flight attendants to prepare the cabin for an emergency return which was accomplished expeditiously.
Narrative: Approximately 10 minutes into flight; 4 chimes were given to flight attendants from the Captain indicating heat/fire/temp problems in tailcone.
