Narrative:
After takeoff an EICAS east/east access door came on. The captain said we must return. Captain took over flying and I tried to contact maintenance. I wrote to dispatch and notified him of return as well as TRACON and the flight attendants. We ran the checklist and the captain asked me to declare an emergency as we would be making an overweight landing. A normal approach and landing were made. Maintenance did inspections on aircraft where a faulty switch was found. Aircraft received an ok for overweight landing.
