Narrative:
I had incorrectly put pvg in the FMS instead of pgv. These airports are 80 miles apart as the crow flies but only 20 miles apart from meril. We were given direct pgv before meril and we were inputting the landing info into our FMS for our destination and found our error. ATC called us at just about the same time and told us an additional 10 degrees right for direct pgv and we agreed with them.both of us saw what our eyes wanted to see. We thought we were seeing pgv and with these two airports being so close in proximity it did not seem incorrect as some other FMS finger punching mistakes that sometimes show 2;000 mile errors. Complacency got me and I need to be more diligent in my entries in the FMS.
