Narrative:
On departure off of the runway landing gear failed to retract. Landing gear handle would not release. Max speed prior to retraction was 160 KIAS. Advised tower of intent to return; positioned emergency vehicles on the runway; contacted operations/station and dispatch via ACARS; and directed flight attendants to perform cabin advisory. Reviewed all pertinent procedures; uneventful approach and landing. Landing was conducted within normal weight limits.
