Narrative:
On approach runway 29 first officer flying got slat disagreement light on initial slat extension, continuing approach, gear down got unsafe gear. No green light. No gear. Recycled slats and gear. Tower called us, we were flying by the tower for gear look. Tower said, 'we show you 1/2 mi south of airport.' I looked at F/D localizer and it was off course to left (ped to the right). I said to first officer, 'get on course, turn right and get aircraft up to 2700' MSL. Climb up now.' we flew by tower down runway 10. Gear was up. We began trouble shooting gear and slat. Revectored for approach to runway 29. All future slat extensions, gear extensions were normal. Landing normal. Contributing factors: slats and gear, rain, thunderstorm in area, arwys and approach. Human performance? One pilot needs to troubleshoot, other pilot fly the airplane. The off course problem arose by both pilots troubleshooting the slats and gear problem. First officer lack of experience.

Title: ACR MLG WITH GEAR AND FLAP PROBLEM DEVIATED OFF LOCALIZER AND HAD TO EXECUTE MISSED APCH.
Narrative: ON APCH RWY 29 F/O FLYING GOT SLAT DISAGREEMENT LIGHT ON INITIAL SLAT EXTENSION, CONTINUING APCH, GEAR DOWN GOT UNSAFE GEAR. NO GREEN LIGHT. NO GEAR. RECYCLED SLATS AND GEAR. TWR CALLED US, WE WERE FLYING BY THE TWR FOR GEAR LOOK. TWR SAID, 'WE SHOW YOU 1/2 MI S OF ARPT.' I LOOKED AT F/D LOC AND IT WAS OFF COURSE TO LEFT (PED TO THE RIGHT). I SAID TO F/O, 'GET ON COURSE, TURN RIGHT AND GET ACFT UP TO 2700' MSL. CLB UP NOW.' WE FLEW BY TWR DOWN RWY 10. GEAR WAS UP. WE BEGAN TROUBLE SHOOTING GEAR AND SLAT. REVECTORED FOR APCH TO RWY 29. ALL FUTURE SLAT EXTENSIONS, GEAR EXTENSIONS WERE NORMAL. LNDG NORMAL. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: SLATS AND GEAR, RAIN, TSTM IN AREA, ARWYS AND APCH. HUMAN PERFORMANCE? ONE PLT NEEDS TO TROUBLESHOOT, OTHER PLT FLY THE AIRPLANE. THE OFF COURSE PROB AROSE BY BOTH PLTS TROUBLESHOOTING THE SLATS AND GEAR PROB. F/O LACK OF EXPERIENCE.
