Narrative:
I had a mooney aircraft that was put in front of a heavy DC10 by final. I saw that the DC10 was catching up to the mooney; so I told the mooney after landing to turn left on taxiway Y; because it looked really tight for him to continue a few feet more to join alpha 2 on the right side where they normally get off. He was going slow enough to make Y; but did not do it for whatever reason. It was almost as if he wasn't paying me any attention. So then I told him to hurry up and turn right onto alpha 2 and I told him about the traffic on short final so that he could see the urgency. He took his time; but from what I could see out the window it appeared that the mooney was off the runway. Next thing I know the DC10 said he was going around; so I sent him around and put him back on approach control. Next time I will send the heavy DC10 around sooner; or offer him a different runway to land on.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: Tower Controller reported that when a Mooney did not exit the runway as instructed; but went to the next taxiway; the DC10 that was on approach went around. Reporter believed the Mooney was clear of the Runway and the ASDE-X did not alarm.
