Narrative:

On our previous leg the purser called to inform us of an acrid electrical smell coming from door 2L and noticeable also at 1L. We decided to continue our climb and after a couple of minutes the purser called back to say the smell appeared to be gone. Enroute we talked to dispatch and maintenance control; letting them know [about] the situation; but we continued to our destination.maintenance met us and did a number of checks lasting about 30-40 minutes; but found nothing and checked us off as ok to continue. Following our next takeoff; climbing through 9;000 ft; we got a call from the same purser saying that there is the same smell in the same locations again. [This time] we; in the cockpit; also smelled the acrid electrical smell. After leveling at 10;000 ft the captain told ATC we needed to return due to an electrical smell in cabin. This time the smell did not seem to go away. We landed at 210;000 pounds and taxied normally to the gate where we were met again by maintenance.
