Narrative:
Cleared a B757 for takeoff. I realized that it would not work; and that separation would probably be lost. In my mind I determined that canceling the B757; and/or issuing go-around to aircraft Y; would not be the safest thing to do; and even though separation would probably be lost and it would be better to not do anything because I was absolutely sure the aircraft would not crash into each other. They did not; however I was informed that separation was lost.
Original NASA ASRS Text
