Narrative:

We were cleared the FMS bridge visual to 28R at ksfo. With both norcal approach and ksfo tower we heard a carrier X heavy jet (B777?) on the localizer to 28L. He was told to not overtake us. As we were angling toward the runway on the FMS visual; the carrier X came closer to us. Our captain asked tower if this was ok to land wingtip to wingtip. Tower replied 'yes.' within the next 5-10 seconds; we received a climb RA; a new voice came over tower frequency and told carrier X jet to go around. We elected not to follow the climb RA as the other aircraft was visual and was already climbing. We received a 'clear of conflict.' as far as we could tell; both aircraft were doing what they were told and were on course. The geometry of the situation meant that eventually we would converge and parallel each other without any spacing with respect to the runway. Our charts caution that operations within 500' might occur. It seemed norcal may not have provided proper spacing.
