Narrative:

After takeoff left main gear unsafe indication along with gear handle illumination. Advised ATC of faulty indication and requested lower altitude to climb to. Verified with cabin crew that gear was in the wheel well and all doors closed. [We] reviewed QRH for proper checklist. Communicated with dispatch and advised of situation. [We] continued to destination at reduced speed and lower altitude after coordination with dispatch. Performed alternate landing gear extension per QRH when twenty miles out of destination. Normal landing however nose wheel steering was disabled by checklist. ATC declared emergency and rolled crash fire rescue equipment equipment to meet aircraft. QRH checklist was ambiguous; hard to determine which condition aircraft met. More guidance needed for air return or continue to destination decision. The checklist itself [is] vague on taxi after landing.
