Narrative:

We called field in sight about 17 NM out coming from the west for a left base. Localizer 35R den about 10 NM out approach says 'fly heading 020; intercept the localizer. [We were] cleared for the visual 35R'. After being cleared for the visual; I turn the shortest distance toward the runway which is basically direct fronz that puts us on a 360 heading. We switch to tower frequency. Tower asks if we're flying 020 to intercept the localizer? Can't remember reply; but I state to captain that we were cleared for the visual approach. We see aircraft flying app. To 35L and are clear of them. What sounds like a supervisor comes on and tells us to fly 040 now because we're heading to 35L traffic. We comply and fly uneventful landing to 35R. Some question regarding the term 'cleared for the visual approach'. Does it not mean; I am responsible for separation and wake turbulence and can maneuver as I see fit to land the airplane? I'd like a clarification on that.

Title: A B757-200 flight crew misinterpreted a visual approach clearance appended to a cleared heading to intercept the localizer. A conflict with another aircraft on a parallel runway ensued.

Narrative: We called field in sight about 17 NM out coming from the west for a left base. LOC 35R DEN about 10 NM out Approach says 'fly heading 020; intercept the localizer. [We were] cleared for the visual 35R'. After being cleared for the visual; I turn the shortest distance toward the runway which is basically direct FRONZ that puts us on a 360 heading. We switch to Tower frequency. Tower asks if we're flying 020 to intercept the LOC? Can't remember reply; but I state to Captain that we were cleared for the visual approach. We see aircraft flying app. to 35L and are clear of them. What sounds like a supervisor comes on and tells us to fly 040 now because we're heading to 35L traffic.
