Narrative:
Over seeing developmental work the rush at plano sector ord approach just changed our inbound speed from 320 KT to 210 KT at the fix. Bdf high sector was giving between 10 to 13 mi on ord arrs. Developmental needed help. I stepped in and worked the sector trying to fix what has happened with a good semblance of order. I vectored 2 aircraft too close. Contributing factor: too many aircraft in the space I had to work. Callback conversation with reporter revealed following information. Reporter stated that both aircraft were descending to 10000 for handoff to ord approach control. One aircraft was heading 330 and the other 360. Reporter said that the volume of traffic prevented him from devoting as much time to these two aircraft as he wanted, and when he looked at them it was too late to vector too preserve sep.
