Inflight had a left thrust reverser unlock light illuminated. Complied with the QRH procedures; they did not go out so we diverted. Emergency was declared and we did not land overweight.

Title: A MD80 left thrust reverser unlock light illuminated in flight. After completing the QRH procedure; the light did not go out; therefore an emergency was declared and the flight diverted to a nearby airport.
Narrative: Inflight had a left thrust reverser unlock light illuminated. Complied with the QRH procedures; they did not go out so we diverted. Emergency was declared and we did not land overweight.
