Narrative:
After returning from a lavatory break; I dropped a cup of hot tea on the console. Cleaned it up and about 10 minutes later we got a forward cargo bay fire indication. [We] ran the appropriate checklist. With an airport off the nose and only requiring a normal descent; we elected to divert. [We] had the fire equipment meet us and determine there was no fire and taxied to the gate. I accidentally dropped my tea trying to position myself into the seat. Maybe [I should] use a lid in the future.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A Captain accidentally spilled a hot liquid on the center console and about ten minutes later the forward cargo bay fire warning sounded. The crew diverted to a nearby airport where fire fighters determined no fire existed.
