Narrative:
I am flying a skylane 182T with garmin 1000 TCAS and announced my intentions to enter the traffic pattern to aun 10 miles southwest from airport and again at 5 miles. Another aircraft announced entering downwind. A third aircraft made an announcement but was inaudible. I could only catch 'touch and go' (will refer to as aircraft Y). I announced; '2 miles south inbound for runway 25 entering 45; following aircraft on downwind. Aircraft in sight.' there was another announcement from aircraft Y; still inaudible. No audible or visual from TCAS. I proceeded to enter the pattern; slowing down and allowing safe distance from aircraft ahead. Audible alert and visual from TCAS showed aircraft ahead. I then heard another announcement from aircraft Y. The announcement was not clear; but I heard '...in pattern'. Not knowing where the aircraft was; I announced; 'unable to sight aircraft that just made announcement - exiting traffic pattern; making right 360 to re-enter pattern.' immediately after my announcement; aircraft Y announced; 'yeah; we see you. You're 200 ft above us.'what can be done to prevent recurrence: when aircraft Y was making announcements that were inaudible; I should have requested the aircraft to repeat and advise of intentions. I find it peculiar that I did not see the aircraft on TCAS; nor was there an audible alert. I had a passenger with me and neither one of us saw aircraft Y as we were entering the traffic pattern.
