Narrative:
During the pre-flight I noticed what appeared to be a small hole in the center of the left main tire. With the help of the FBO crew; I pushed the airplane back and inspected the whole tire. At that time we discovered a larger hole that appeared to be deep and through the tire cord. Maintenance and dispatch were notified. The previous post flight check did not reveal any defects; possibly because the tire damage was on the bottom of the tire and obscured by the pavement.
