Narrative:
On final approach when the flap handle was positioned to '1' the indicators stopped before reaching '1' and a 'le slat asymmetry' light illuminated. No noticeable aircraft roll tendency was noticed. An emergency was declared and delay vectors to the longer runway were requested. While accomplishing the appropriate checklists the le slat asymmetry light suddenly extinguished and the flaps were lowered normally with no further complications. A normal landing was accomplished.
